Douglas County Traffic Management Center Traffic Management Center Upgrade for Douglas County
The Douglas County Traffic Management Center (TMC) required a state-of-the-art upgrade to enhance control and communication with traffic signals and devices across the county’s roadway network. The primary objective was to enable traffic management staff to monitor and manage traffic flow efficiently, diagnose issues remotely, and provide excellent service to the public. The TMC needed a reliable and robust system capable of 24x7 operations, particularly crucial during the high-demand holiday shopping season. Logic Integration was tasked with designing and implementing this comprehensive solution within a tight deadline.

The project presented several significant challenges. The TMC needed a large video wall to support IP video feeds from long-range field pan-tilt-zoom cameras and various servers and systems. The room required seating for two operators and needed to accommodate video feeds from county servers, PCs, DirecTV, and IPTV for traffic and weather reporting. System reliability was paramount, necessitating a solution that could operate 24x7, 365 days a year. The installation had to be completed in time for the holiday shopping season, requiring a fast-track approach. Additionally, the system needed to include capabilities for future expansion, and the TMC staff needed to control all audio, video, and lighting from a centralized control touch panel.
Logic Integration developed a tailored solution to meet the TMC's requirements. The system was centered around the Planar Clarity Matrix Video Wall system, featuring fifteen 46” HD 1080P displays arranged in a 5x3 configuration. To reduce heat and noise in the control room, the cabling was routed to displays from Planar processors and power supplies located in a separate server room.
To manage the complex video switching and processing needs, Logic Integration implemented the RGB Spectrum Galileo Processor and Switcher. The Galileo system, recommended by RGB Spectrum, provided IP-enabled video wall processing and supported H.264 IP decoding for full-motion video. Additionally, Logic Integration installed and programmed a Crestron lighting control system, managed via a 7” Crestron touch panel, enabling the TMC staff to control all lighting, audio, and system sources from the control desk.
- Clarity Matrix LCD Video Wall System: Featuring 5 x 3 MX46HDS 1080P Panels.
- Galileo Processor/Switcher: Designed for 10 PC/Server/Source inputs and 15 outputs for the video wall. The system supports a full range of input and output types (IP, analog, DVI/HDMI, 3G/HD-SDI) with resolutions up to 3840x2160 (4K).
- Crestron Control System: TSW-750-B touch panel and Crestron lighting control.
The implementation of the new system significantly enhanced the operational capabilities of the Douglas County Traffic Management Center. The large video wall provided comprehensive visual monitoring of traffic signals and devices, enabling staff to promptly identify and address issues. The use of the Galileo Processor ensured smooth and reliable video switching and processing, critical for the TMC's round-the-clock operations.
The Crestron control system provided an intuitive interface for managing all system components, streamlining the workflow for the TMC operators. The project was completed on schedule, ready in time for the holiday shopping season, demonstrating Logic Integration’s ability to deliver high-quality solutions under tight deadlines.
Overall, the upgraded system has empowered the Douglas County TMC to deliver enhanced service to the public, ensuring efficient traffic management and rapid response to any issues on the county's roadways. The future-proof design allows for easy expansion and upgrades, ensuring that the TMC can continue to meet evolving traffic management needs.
