Audio System Upgrades at the Colorado State Capitol Building
In mid-2013, Logic Integration was tasked with upgrading the audio systems of the historic Colorado State Capitol. Built in the 1890s and opened in 1894, the Capitol is a prominent landmark that has witnessed significant technological advancements over the past 120 years. While the public has seen the renovation of the Gold Dome, substantial improvements have also been made indoors. Logic Integration's project required updating the Capitol's audio infrastructure to accommodate modern needs while preserving its historic integrity.

The Colorado State Capitol and its surrounding complex posed several challenges due to their size and historical significance. During initial site walks, it was discovered that the Capitol had an intricate and aging analog audio system infrastructure. This system sent audio to recording and streaming servers in a building across the street, previously the Colorado State Museum, now housing legislative council chambers and offices, including the Joint Budget Council (JBC). Audio systems were also distributed to Squawk Boxes in various legislative offices.
Working within these historic buildings required careful planning and consideration. New construction had to be balanced with the preservation of historic finishes, including dealing with lead-based paint. Additionally, legal requirements mandated that many existing analog system functions be retained, even as the long-term goal was to transition to a Dante Audio network.
Logic Integration undertook the project with a deep respect for the Capitol's historical and functional needs. The team successfully upgraded audio systems in several key areas, including Council Rooms 112, 356, and the Old Supreme Court. The JBC received a complete upgrade in early 2014, and a significant remodel of Room 271 was completed later that year.
To address the complex audio distribution needs, Logic Integration installed advanced teleconferencing, video distribution, and video conferencing systems. These upgrades leveraged the capabilities of the Lectrosonics Aspen Series DSP and Crestron DMPS-300-C Audio/Video & Control processors, alongside Vaddio cameras and audio bridging devices. FSR table devices for microphones and Crestron Flip-top Cubbies were also integrated, providing elegant and user-friendly finishes to the newly installed systems.
- Lectrosonics Aspen Series DSP: Provided robust digital signal processing capabilities, essential for managing complex audio routing and distribution.
- Crestron DMPS-300-C: Centralized control and processing for audio and video systems, ensuring seamless integration and operation.
- Vaddio Cameras and Audio Bridging Devices: Enabled high-quality video conferencing and audio bridging, enhancing communication capabilities.
- FSR Table Devices for Mics: Integrated microphone solutions that complemented the historic aesthetics of the rooms.
- Crestron Flip-top Cubbies: Provided discreet, user-friendly access to audio and video controls.
The audio system upgrades at the Colorado State Capitol successfully balanced modern technological needs with the preservation of historic elements. Logic Integration's careful design and implementation ensured that the Capitol's complex audio requirements were met, including legal mandates to retain certain analog functionalities. The new systems have improved teleconferencing, video distribution, and video conferencing capabilities, providing legislators with reliable and user-friendly tools for effective communication. The upgrades have not only enhanced functionality but also respected the Capitol's historic significance, blending seamlessly with its storied architecture.
Logic Integration is proud to have contributed to the ongoing evolution of the Colorado State Capitol, ensuring that it remains a functional and historic landmark for future generations.
